Sinopsis
The Mask of Anarchy, by Percy Bysshe Shelley, is considered one of the best political poems ever written in English language. Written on the occasion of the massacre carried out by the British Government at St Peter’s Field, Manchester 1819, Shelley begins his poem with the powerful surrealistic images of the unjust forms of authority of his time “God, and King, and Law” – and he then imagines the stirrings of a radically new form of social action: “Let a great assembly be, of the fearless, of the free”.

Escrito con motivo de la masacre realizada por el gobierno británico en St Peter’s Field, Manchester, 1819, Shelley comienza su poema con potentes imágenes surrealistas de las formas injustas de autoridad de su tiempo: “Dios, y Rey y Ley”. Y entonces se imagina el levantamiento una forma radicalmente nueva de acción social: “Que se haga una gran asamblea, de los sin miedo, los libres…”
